What this is for
The form has twelve pages and you need the first three. The report ends on page 40 and everything after that is appendices. The invitation is on page 1 and the rest is programme.
You enter the last page to keep - everything after it falls away. It is the same operation as "select pages", only with a number instead of a range expression, because that is the commonest shape of it.
The original file is left untouched. What you get is a new file with the pages you kept; fonts, links and searchability come with them.
