What this is for
How many days until the deadline? What date is 30 days after the invoice date? Both are awkward in your head, because months differ in length and leap years get in the way.
The arithmetic is done at day level in UTC. That sounds like a detail but it prevents a common error: in local time the two days around a clock change have 23 and 25 hours, and a naive calculation then loses or gains a day.
