Generate Lorem Ipsum

Placeholder text by words, characters or paragraphs.

For a character target the text is filled with whole words rather than cut mid-word - the counter states what actually came out.

What you type is processed in your browser and never sent to us.

How to do it

  1. Pick an amount and a unit

Paragraphs for a layout, characters for a field limit.

  2. Generate

Every click produces a fresh text; the word order is random.

  3. Copy

The counter gives characters and words of the result.

What this is for

Placeholder text is needed in two situations, and the usual generators cover only one. A layout is measured in paragraphs or words; a length-limited input field is measured in characters. Both are available here.

For a character target the text is filled with whole words rather than cut mid-word. A fragment like consectetu draws exactly the attention during a layout review that placeholder text must not draw. The counter below the output states what actually came out.

Common questions

Because whole words are used. Text cut mid-word looks like a fault and distracts during a layout review. The counter gives the actual figure, usually a few characters short of the target.

No. Only the opening "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." is fixed, and that can be switched off. The rest is reassembled on every click.

Because it is not meant to be readable. Comprehensible filler gets read during proofing and occasionally published by accident; visibly meaningless text can do neither.
