The draft stays in this browser so that a reload does not throw the work away. "Clear" removes it.

What you type is processed in your browser and never sent to us.

How to do it

  1. Write, or open a file

The preview follows as you type.

  2. Format

    From the bar, or with Ctrl/Cmd + B, I and K.

  3. Save

    Four formats, one click each.

What this is for

Source on the left, result on the right, and a bar that inserts the marks so nobody has to remember them. Select a word, press B, and the asterisks appear in the source.

Deliberately not an editor that hides the Markdown: someone writing Markdown wants Markdown at the end. The bar removes the remembering, not the source.

The draft stays in your browser so an accidental reload does not throw the work away - on your device, not on our server.

Common questions

No. Converting and saving happen in your browser, and the draft lives in your browser's own storage.

Because an editor that hides the Markdown hides exactly what is meant to come out. The toolbar saves you memorising the marks; the source stays visible and editable.

The "Contents" button reads the headings and inserts a linked list. The anchors follow the same pattern GitHub uses, so they work there too.

No, and the tool says so. A Markdown image points at an address, and fetching it would mean sending your file to a stranger after all. The alt text and the address stay in the document.
